Common prayers
People pray about common things every single day. Yes, it is necessary to pray for a variety of different things or for particular circumstances that are relevant, but we should also always focus on the common prayers.

Common prayers are hardily ordinary. These are the small little repetitious prayers that God appreciates we spend time each day praying about. They may be simple or popular issues, a casual wish for blessings of your loved ones, or thanksgiving to the Lord among others.
Common prayers start with the most common prayer which was stated in the bible as the way you should pray and still used heavily in the Catholic church.
Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name,
Your kingdom come,
Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us today our daily bread.
Forgive us our debts,
As we also have forgiven our debtors.
And lead us not into temptation,
But deliver us from the evil one.
(Matthew 6:9-13)
The prayer is simple and to the point. It’s common because a lot of people know about it and say it exactly the same way.
However, not every single common prayer needs re-uttered by thousands of people around the world. It just needs to be common to you.
Common prayers often involve wishing blessings to:
• Your spouse
• Family
• Friends
• Co-workers
• Job
• School, etc
Common prayers also involve prayer for world issues or problems:
• Poverty
• Crime/Violence
• Cancer/AIDS
• Peace
• Abuse
• Addiction
Common prayers may also include words of thanksgiving:
• For your home
• Career
• School
• Friends & Family
• Possessions
The important thing to remember about prayer is that nothing is boring, irrelevant, or stupid if it makes sense to you and you feel like God is calling you to pray for it. The only reason people refer to some prayers as “common prayers” is because they are prayers that are dear to a lot of people’s hearts or deal with an issue that a lot of people want solved.
It’s important to remember that prayer is a very personalized matter. It’s the greatest opportunity to get close and in-touch with God. Why? Because it’s you and God, all alone, together to spend some much needed time together.
There is however a time for prayer in groups. Prayers of healing and encouragement are especially important when conducted in groups. Unfortunately, sharing a problem or illness with other people, even if they are Christians, is awkward and difficult. But God encourages us to open up and humble ourselves. Sure, it’s very difficult but it’s the only way we can receive prayer for our needs.
It’s important that you break up prayer time between prayer alone, prayer with groups, and prayer for healing. All three of these types of prayers are powerful and each one has a specific purpose. I do not believe that you can rely solely on one type of prayer. However, we often tend to rely solely on prayer alone and away from others. This is your greatest type of prayer and a great weapon against the enemy, but it does become dull without others there to sharpen it.
Fellowship is really important! Take advantage of it. Churches will always make you feel welcomed and wish to pray over you.
Never underestimate the power of common prayers. While they may seem dull and monotonous, common prayers are a huge key to improving and helping out our society. One of the dumbest things you can do is to assume everyone else is praying for it so why should I?
God intended for all of us to take the power of prayer into our own hands and literally change the world with our own words. You have that kind of power and God wants to work through you to make it a reality. Pray for the common things everyday – common issues, common problems, and common healing requests.
Ask a close friend or fellow believer to pray with you. When you cannot spend time together, reach out and ask that same individual to pray for you and your common prayers.
Keep those prayers dear to your heart and keep them coming. Never refuse to “take a play off” or assume someone else is doing the hard work in the trenches. Jump into that same trench and help rebuild this country and your personal life!
