Powerful Prayers
“God does not die on the day when we cease to believe in a personal deity,
But we die on the day when our lives cease to be illuminated by the steady radiance,
Renewed daily, of a wonder, the source of which is beyond all reason.”
-Dag Hammarskjold
As soon as God above removed his hands from this world it started spinning out of control. The most amazing aspect about God is that he could have created mankind that only had the choice to praise him. God could have created us to automatically “submit” to his will, thus leaving the world as perfect as he had envisioned when he first crafted it. Our God didn’t do that though. He created all mankind to have freewill. He desired a heart that chose to worship him verses constructed to worship him. Powerful prayers can only come from a powerful God.

God is the same today, as he was with Moses, Noah, and Daniel. He is the same God that King David sought after, and that Jacob wrestled with. The God of the Old Testament is the God of the New Testament, as well as the God of today. Powerful prayers can only be met by a Powerful God. Once an individual removes all limitations they have imposed on God and meet for the first time the real God that is so powerful that the thunder rolls from mere whispers, then they have just scratched the surface of the true power of God.
The Apostle Paul wrote the book of Ephesians. This book has often been referred to as the “richest” book in the Bible. In the sixth chapter of Ephesians, the Apostle Paul explains the powerful “armor” of God. The six sections of armor are; the shield of faith, the helmet of salvation, the breastplate of righteousness, the belt of truth, the sword of the spirit, and the Gospel of peace.
Humans live in the actual physical world. Scripture informs us that there is a spiritual realm also around us. Since the fall of Lucifer, there has been constant spiritual warfare. It is believed that Lucifer was one of the most beautiful angels of all of Heaven. His arrogant desire to become equal to God had resulted in his removal from Heaven. In society today, Lucifer is also known as; the devil, Satan, and or the beast. Scripture makes clear his desire to make all Christians stumble. Jesus himself was not even spared his attempts.
The Apostle Matthew in the fourth chapter details how the Spirit called Jesus to a wilderness location found in Judea. While in the wilderness Satan approached Jesus in efforts to cause his human flesh to stumble. While fasting and offering powerful prayers to God, Jesus responded to Satan with the actual world of God. Jesus used scriptures to rebuke Satan.
While in the wilderness, Jesus was fasting and offering powerful prayers to God. Typically at times in the Scripture that powerful prayers are being offered to God, fasting is also taking place. Fasting was a significant part of the Jewish culture, in reference to worship. Satan used this to offer various types of temptation to Christ. Without a doubt, the very human aspects of Jesus would have been hunger from fasting. Satan understood that appealing to the human aspect of Jesus would have been the only way that temptation would have succeeded. Temptation and sin are human aspects.
One can learn from Jesus that there are times in life where powerful prayers are needed. Jesus set aside this time in the wilderness just prior to beginning his ministries. This time was set aside for fasting and aligning himself with God. Powerful prayers are not only for crises situations; they can also be for understanding God’s path for your life. They can be for protection, safety, for our children, or that of any situation we are facing.
