Prayer For Father: The Important Role of Fathers

“He didn’t tell me how to live; he lived, and let me watch him do it.
-Clarence Budington Kelland

We have all grown up with a concept of a father. For some it’s the perfect image of a loving man that steadfastly met the needs of his family. For others it is of a father that left much to be desired, and contributed nothing but pain to his family. There is yet even a third category of individuals that have no visual image of a father, other than the father of a good friend. Each of these perceptions drawls their own unique understanding of God as a Father. Of all the offerings of prayers, a prayer for father might very well be one of our generation’s hardest prayers to request.

The social structure of our society today has changed radically from that of the 1950’s. More and more children are growing up in single parent homes, or are even raised by Grandparents. For these children to understand the loving image of a Father that Jesus describes is incredibly difficult.
The deep anguish that a child carries with them throughout life from the lack of a compassionate father is overwhelming. Men that have grown up without a present father for whatever reason have all expressed a certain amount in loss of identity. It is tremendously difficult for a boy to grow into a man of honor and character without first knowing a man of honor and character. A prayer for fathers is so important for the world today.

Jesus was the very first to resent the concept of God as a Father. Not once in the Old Testament was God presented in such personal language. Jesus referred to God as the “Father” approximately 170 times. The entire reason for Christ was to bring a personal God to a lost world. Regardless to what earthly father an individual has experienced, the Heavenly Father is reaching out his hand to his lost child. It is important to understand that God the Father is perfect in action. Humanly fathers can and will stumble and fall. Regardless of what an individual experience is with a father figure, God can and will surpass all reference.

At this moment in history, there is the highest percentage of children growing up without fathers. A prayer for father is vital for the young people of our society. The chains of today need to be broken, and for the health of our nation’s children, the family unit needs to be restored. There is a tremendous void in the life of an individual that experiences an unhealthy relationship with a father figure. The same can be said for individuals that never establish a relationship with the Heavenly Father.

In the world today there are individuals that are perpetually searching for ways to fill these voids. Some turn to addictions, risky behavior, and bad relationships. The only way to fill a Father void is by establishing a relationship with a father. Without a doubt, there are situations that prevent this from occurring. This is why a personal relationship with the Heavenly Father is so crucial.

A prayer for fathers is one that would lift the men of today up so that they understand the great responsibility they have for their children. Scripture also strongly emphasizes that men are called to be the Spiritual leaders of their household. Unfortunately, many men today are absent either physically or emotionally, preventing this.

Our world needs strong men to reestablish there leadership position in the family. Too many children are growing up in a world not just without a father, but also without any person to fill that father figure role. The impact of generational sin cannot be broken until parents make a choice to break the pattern. So many individuals realize that children do sit and watch. They watch how you talk, work, and react to the world around you. Growing up with an absent father or an incarcerated father will leave a significant impact on the life of a child also. Unfortunately, a very negative one.

A prayer for fathers today would be for them to look with new eyes at the beautiful creation that God has blessed them with. For them to understand that their children will only learn and understand what they personally show them. To know trust, love, and compassion a child must experienced it. Throughout the New Testament Jesus continually creates the image of God as our Father. This is meant to be a clear picture of how the relationship between fathers and children are meant to be.
