1 Corinthians 13:4-7 says, “Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no records of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.”
Why do weddings sometimes appear anything but the above scripture?
Weddings are large events that require a ton of planning. Often the individuals involved in the planning stage are filled with a lot of frustration, pressure, and anxiety to pull off an amazing event. They may set their expectations so high that they’re not even attainable.
While a wedding should and usually is reserved for celebration, often the months, weeks, and days leading up to the event are anything but so.
If you know an individual who is getting married this summer, now is a great time to pray for the wedding. Perhaps you are getting married this summer and you just need a special prayer for the wedding?
Prayer for wedding is one of the most important things you can do for the event. It’s even more powerful than the wedding invitations, wedding shower, or rehearsal.
Ecclesiastes 3:1-8 states…
“There is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under heaven…
A time to search and time to give up,
A time to keep and a time to throw away,
A time to tear and a time to mend,
A time to be silent and a time to speak,
A time to love and a time to hate,
A time for war and a time for peace.”
There is a time for everything! So make sure you set aside some time for prayer for the wedding. Pray for the groom and bride. Pray for the best man and bridesmaid. Pray for the immediate and extended family. Pray for the friends of the family. Pray for all the individuals helping out with the wedding. Pray for the church that will hold the wedding and the reception location.
In today’s difficult economic times, it’s hard to fathom the eye-opening expenses of a wedding. Prayer for wedding expenses is very important. Pray that the bride, groom, and both families will find enough funds to cover the celebration. Pray that these expenses will not financially cripple the families nor leave them in severe debt.
Remember that God is the ultimate provider!
“Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you. For every one who asks receives, and he who seeks finds, and to him who knocks it will be opened.”
God intended for all of us to fellowship, worship, and enjoy time together. Church was created for that sole purpose. Prayer is no different. There is power to prayer together – power in prayer for weddings when we come together.
Weddings are rather large events. Two families will legally become united together through the common marriage of two different individuals. Friends of those two families will gather to help celebrate the legal event. Marriage is almost universally accepted as a major event in practically any culture you analyze.
Someone obviously deemed marriage a very important tradition and celebration. If you are a Christian, you believe that God was the mastermind behind weddings given that he is the God of love.
Everyone wants a wedding that goes as planned and all the guests enjoy. Many certainly believe that if God is a God of love, he certainly will want to make the individual’s wedding you pray for a success as well.
Keep in close connection with God and keep prayer for the wedding close for the weeks leading up to the event. Ask others at church or in your community to pray for the wedding as well. It never hurts to reach out to a complete stranger and ask for prayer support as well (remember a Christian brother or sister is not a stranger).
God never intended for individuals to live a life filled with anxiety, fear, and nervousness. Unfortunately, a large event like a wedding is prone to those anxiety attacks. Loved ones of the individuals getting married can go a long way towards helping support the wedding through prayer. Pray that the anxiety and fear is removed from the event. Pray for removal of the nerves and frustrations of planning everything. Pray for financial support if the families are in need.
