Prayers for Protection

A popular story among the Christian church goes something like this. A sick, twisted of a man had recently targeted a suburban area during the weekdays. He would wait patiently in his vehicle for the next victim.
The alley he waited in claimed the innocence and purity of three middle and high school girls who had recently traveled down the alley only to discover the surprise of a lifetime. At the time the police were not aware of the rapist because no one had gone forward yet with the offense.

One day after school, a girl in the freshmen year of high school was traveling down the same path alone that the three other girls had made a mistake of taking just days before.
The girl noticed something peculiar about the man waiting inside the vehicle parked down the alley. Something definitely did not seem right. She was a little suspicious so the girl did the first thing she could think of.
She prayed for protection.
A strange thing happened. The girl walked by the man in the vehicle and was not harmed nor touched.
Weeks later when the man was arrested for suspicion of rape, the same girl who said the prayer for protection was interrogated by the police to see if the descriptions of the rape victims met the description of this little prayer warrior.
It turns out they did. The man was arrested and sentenced to life in prison for rape.
Before he began his sentence, police later asked the rapist why he let that one girl slip by that day without harm. It didn’t add up to the police. She fit the description and type of the other victims. She was alone.
The man responded, “Are you kidding me? Two men were walking right beside her.”
God had sent two special angels that day to protect a girl’s innocence. While she didn’t know it, the man inside the car definitely witnessed it. Those two angels saved her purity. They also protected her and enabled her to become a key witness against the man later in the case.
It’s amazing what God will provide when we just ask.
Prayers for protection have an immediate and unique quality to them. They often come in dire situations where something just doesn’t seem right or we know that something definitely is not right. When we need God fast he’s there.
Prayers for protection take a direct biblical root. Think about it for a moment, the bible states that God will always protect us. It tells us not to worry or fear because God is always there to protect us. The bible also says that God will never leave nor forsake us.
So if we take direct scripture out of the bible we know for a fact that A) Jesus protects us and B) Jesus will never leave nor forsake us.
If Jesus warns us against fear and anxiety then we know for a fact that he will take care of it. God will never give us more than we can handle nor will he leave us unprepared. If He says he’ll take care of it then we can trust he will indeed take care of it.
The standard instinct to worry and fear is very common. Most individuals spend a large portion of their life worrying, anxious, and fearful of the unknown. God designed us to live in peace, harmony, and love. If we worry and fear all the time obviously that takes away from peace and harmony. You cannot after all both live in love and fear. One or the other has to give.
Jesus said he would take the burden of fear off our shoulders for a reason. He wanted to do the worrying for us.
Unfortunately are pride tells us otherwise. Our pride desperately seeks for attention. If wants to take control and say, “No, John, I must take care of this on my own.” Pride says you are scared but you will not admit it nor will you let anyone else help you. Pride is a very selfish sin. It’s the prime root of all other sins.
Prayers for protection will remove that false cloak of pride. When you pray for protection and removal of that fear, you are essentially telling your flesh, “I am weak and I cannot handle this on my own. I’m going to lift my burden to Jesus.”
